History

City CU started in 1942 with only $50 in deposits, the minimum amount required to obtain a credit union charter from the State of Texas. City CU’s first official meeting was on August 24, 1942, in the Central Council Chamber of the old City Hall. It was decided that the Board of Directors would consist of nine members, with a three-person Supervisory Committee. Operations began in a small cubby hole in the Police Detail room in the basement of the old City Hall. The credit union soon outgrew the space and moved to the fourth floor of the old City Hall. The first financial statement was completed on August 31, 1942. Loans outstanding totaled $100; total cash was $1,712 and assets totaled $1,812.

Today

Now, 80 years later, we serve communities across the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metropolitan area with low-rate loans, competitive deposit rates and the convenience of technology like online banking and a mobile app. Member service - in-branch, on the phone or online - means a lot to us, and our member survey scores and Google reviews show we're doing a pretty good job.

Free financial education for members and non-members has been a cornerstone of our organization for many years. To celebrate our 75th Anniversary in 2017, we added another cornerstone that we call Random Acts of Kindness - that is, we encourage our employees, members and communities to do something charitable for others, whether that's a friendly wave to let another motorist in, picking up the lunch tab for a first responder or donating to a food or school supply drive.

Led by President and CEO Sharon Moore, City CU has grown to more than $600 million in assets, 35,000 members, 100 employees and five branches in north Texas.  Join us to see how we're making the difference, one member at a time.
