Free financial education - including one-on-one counseling -  for anyone has been a cornerstone of our organization for many years.

History

City CU started in 1942 with only $50 in deposits, the minimum amount required to obtain a credit union charter from the State of Texas. City CU’s first official meeting was on August 24, 1942, in the Central Council Chamber of the old City Hall. It was decided that the Board of Directors would consist of nine members, with a three-person Supervisory Committee. Operations began in a small cubby hole in the Police Detail room in the basement of the old City Hall. The credit union soon outgrew the space and moved to the fourth floor of the old City Hall. The first financial statement was completed on August 31, 1942. Loans outstanding totaled $100; total cash was $1,712 and assets totaled $1,812.

Today

Led by President and CEO Sharon Moore, City CU has grown to more than $650 million in assets, 35,000 members, 100 employees and five branches in north Texas.
